Moonface Studio gets analog reverb fever...

Moonface studio is adding a classic, analog, studio grade,  spring reverb and a custom built (for Moonface Studio), large plate reverb to our reverb arsenal!

Back in the 60s, and again in 80s popular music was awash with reverb. Have you ever noticed that the big, huge reverbs of the 80s are the subject of endless jokes because of how corny and awful they sounded? The biggest difference between the 60s and the 80s is analog vs digital.

Granted, digital and software has come a LOOOOONG way since the 80s. In fact, there are some positively gorgeous sounding digital reverbs out there. Most are run from very expensive hardware units. Indeed, great sounding tracks can be had with these reverb tools But, NOTHING beats real springs, plates or large rooms with varying materials reflect the sound back at you!

In the 60s, most of the ‘manufactured’ reverbs you hear came off of real metal plates and real metal springs. They sound so natural and organic. Even though their original purpose was to emulate open space, they took on a life and sound of their own. They became ‘familiar’ to our ears. When companies like Lexicon began making digital reverb units, they sought to emulate not only real spaces, but these classic plate and spring reverbs!

Well, Moonface Studio is on a mission to have the real deal. We have several of the top, ‘standard’ digital reverbs. But, we want to take it a step further. We want to have something that many studios in this class simply do not! We are in the process of installing a newly acquired, 2-channel spring reverb rack unit. This reverb is an amazing sounding, classic spring reverb unit that works great for guitars, drums vocals, synths...you name it. You’ve heard the same sound on countless songs before. It has a lush, organic, vintage sound that just can’t be accurately replicated.

We are also in the process of having a custom made/designed, large plate reverb unit built for the studio. This is a very exciting project. The device will be quite large (approximately 4’ x 7’!!) and promises to sound breathtaking!

This is really going to add incalculable value to the sound we can achieve here and set us apart from not only other small, project studios, but even many major, high-dollar studios!

Construction on the plate is expected to be completed around the 1st part of April, 2008! The Spring will be available after March 8th, 2008.
